Syracuse’s Amanda Vestri sets school record in 3000m at Clemson, BU Invites

On Friday in the women’s 3000m, Amanda Vestri finished in 9:04.36 and placed 19th overall, setting her personal best and a new school record in Boston. Vetri previously broke 5000m school record at the Sharon Colyear Danville Season Opener on December 3, 2022.

This weekend, Syracuse traveled to Clemson and Boston for Tiger Paw Invitational and Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Despite no medal entries, Syracuse recorded 30 personal records in two meets.

For the rest of 3000m attendants, Savannah Roark finished in 9:10.39 placing 24th; Abigail Spiers finished in 9:21.90 and ranked 42th; Shona McCulloch posted a time of 9:46.78 and placed 116th; Ivy Gonzales (132th) recorded 9:51.20, while Madeline Heintz (146th) finished in 9:56.85. All Syracuse 3000m runners earned their best records.

On Friday in Clemson, Shaleah Colaire was the first to compete for Syracuse in Women’s 60m hurdles, finishing at 8.62 seconds for 30th place. In the women’s 60m dash, Kahniya James (40th) and Kaleia Arrington (69th) both did not qualify.



On the men’s side, Syracuse hurdler Jaheem Hayles posted his best time of the season (7.69) and ranked 7th in the heat. Hayles made his last personal-best record in the same meet last year.

Anthony Vazquez placed 24th with 8.07 and also qualified for the semi-final run. Vazquez (23rd) and Hayles (24th) didn’t place in the semifinal, however, with 8.05 and 8.08, respectively.

In the Men’s 60m race, Trei Thorogood (14th) finished in 6.73, 0.01 seconds away from his personal record. In the semi final, Thorogood (16th) completed in 6.75 and was disqualified.

Elijah Mallard wrapped up the day for Syracuse, finishing Men’s 400m in 48.85 and placing 60th overall.

On the second day of the meet, Kaleia Arrington and Shaleah Colaire competed in Women’s 200m dash. Arrington recorded her best of 24.85 and placed 81st, while Colaire placed 86th with 25.15.

In the other two-day event at Boston University, more athletes competed in distance races than the previous events.

CJ Fox and Kirstyn Schechter firstly ran for Syracuse in Women’s 60m Hurdles, ranking 15th (9.19) and 21st (9.39) respectively. In the Women 60m Hurdles Invitational prelim, Peyton Rollins finished in 9.04, placed 21st, and disqualified. Morgan Marshall (22nd) ran a time of 8.03 in another invitational heat for Women 60m dash, and was either disqualified.

In the Women’s 200m, Peyton Rollins completed the race in 25.16, her personal best, and ranked 42nd overall. Schechter also recorded a personal record for her in Women 400m, placing 127th with 59.96.

Following the sprint games was the distance part. In Women’s mile, Emma Eastman (64th), Sydney Nowicki (86th), and Caroline Kirby (93th) broke their personal records simultaneously, recording 4:47.53, 4:51.97, and 4:52.92 respectively. Kensey May also finished within five minutes (4:59.49) and placed 147th. Justus Holden-Betts finished in 5:10.88 and placed 202th. Lizzie Bigelow finished in 5:25.23 and placed 278th overall.

The last game of the day was Women’s 5000m. Olivia Joly (67th), Ellie Lawler (69th), Emily Nugent (90th) enhanced their personal records of 16:45.18, 16.48.80, and 17.14.95 respectively. Reilly Zink placed 93th with a time of 17:17.43.

On the men’s side on Saturday, Mathew Dragon posted his personal best (8:38.09) in the 3000m and went unranked. In the men’s 60m hurdles prelims, David Peters (8.25) placed 13th. In the Men’s 60 dash, Daijon Richards (9th) and Carlton Landingham (34th) finished in 7.06 and 7.22, respectively.

In the Men’s 800m, Alexander Segarra finished in 1:55.62 (PR) and placed 172nd, while Ryder Kriley placed 238th with a time of 1:58.23 (PR). Following the 800m was Men’s 400m, Xayvion Perkins (99th) and James Nmah (126th) both finished in their best records of 49.87 and 50.34 respectively.

In the Men’s 200m, Nmah made his second personal record of 21.99 and ranked 33rd. Landingham finished in 22.17 (PR) and placed 53rd.

In the Men’s Mile, Karl Winter became the eighth runner to finish the run within four minutes in program history, posting his best record of 3:59.25 and placing 44th overall. Kevin Robertson placed 102nd with his personal-best 4:06.28.

In the Men’s 3000m, Paul O’Donnell had his personal record of 8:00.09 and ranked 44th overall. Alex Herbst (188th), Eamon Burke (198th), and Ruben Rojas Betanzos (243rd) finished in 8:26.59, 8:27.88, and 8:48.13 respectively.

The last game of the meet came to the Men’s 5000m that seven Syracuse runners competed in. Three of them finished within 14 minutes and five of them ranked in the top 100. Nathan Lawler (42nd), Sam Lawler (44th), Alex Comerford (54th), and Ethan Wechsler (99th) set up their personal best records of 13:51.26, 13:52.45, 13:56.76, and 14:18.79 respectively. Assaf Harari finished his 5000m debut in 14:08.35 and placed 74th. Silas Derfel (148th) and Jack Whetstone (149th) finished in 14:42.41 and 14:44.83, respectively.
